We are disappointed that while more than ten thousand voted for Measure B, a majority of Santa Barbara city voters didn't recognize the need to lower building heights by amending the city charter to make sure that no more monster buildings get built in Santa Barbara.

However, almost everyone, including those opposed to B, consider some of the projects on Chapala mistakes and agree that they should not happen again. They, too, have expressed a need to make changes in city ordinances.

That means that there is a lot more work to be done. Even though Measure B didn't pass, it is clear that there is much community concern about building heights. They can be addressed by ordinance. Setbacks and open space are also extremely important parts of project design and also need to be addressed.

Opponents as well as supporters of Measure B recognize that need, and we look forward to working with the city council and the design community to make necessary changes.
